TISS National Entrance Test (TISS-Net)


Established in 1936, Tata Institute of Social Sciences is a Government of India funded Deemed University that contributes to the creation of ecologically sustainable, equitable and justsociety. TISS through its 9 schools and 3 independent centres at the MumbaiCampus, along with vibrant campuses in Tuljapur (Rural Maharashtra), Guwahatiand Hyderabad offers 45 highly competitive, socially relevant M.A. / M.Sc. /M.P.H./ M.H.A. Programmes in inter and trans-disciplinary areas of social work,health, management, development, habitat and climate sciences. The Institutehas over 160 full-time highly accomplished faculty members involved inteaching, research, policy influencing and institution building activities.Currently, the Mumbai campus has over 1600 Masters and 380 Doctoral students.In 2009, TISS was re-accredited by NAAC and was awarded Grade “A” with a scoreof 3.88 out of 4.

Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses haveindependent high quality faculty engaged in teaching, research, policy andoutreach activities; and are networked with Mumbai campus to access library,online books and journals and classes. All campuses have unified campusplacement programme.

TISS ANNOUNCES Admission to the 2014-16 batch forit’s Full-Time (Regular) Post-Graduate Degree Programmes (M.A., M. Sc., M.H.A.,M.P.H.) offered from Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses


As per Government of India norms, Mumbai, Tuljapurand Hyderabad Campuses provide 15%, 7.5% and 27% reservation to ScheduledCaste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) for each ofthe programmes. In addition, supernumerary seats are allocated to Persons WithDisabilities (PWD) {3%} , Kashmiri migrants {1%} and children of the ArmedForces Employees {5%}

As per agreement with Ministry of Development ofNorth-East Region, Government of India, Guwahati Campus allots 66% of the seatsto candidates from eight North Eastern States. The remaining 34% of the seatsare for candidates from other parts of the country. For these seats (34%) samerules for reservation mentioned above for SC/ST and OBC categories areapplicable . In addition, supernumerary seats are allocated to Persons WithDisabilities (PWD) {3%} , Kashmiri migrants {1%} and children of the Armed ForcesEmployees {5%}

Campus Preference:

TISS offers 45 Master’s Degree programmes from itsMumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses for the 2014-2016 batch.Candidates can apply for a maximum of three programmes across any of thetwo campuses indicating the order of preference. The merit list will beprepared based on the preferences given by the candidate in the applicationform.

National Entrance Test will take place at 35centres in different cities/towns across the country.  Pre Interview Test(PIT) and Personal Interview (PI)  for programmes offered at  Mumbai,Tuljapur, MHAT, CUTN, and  BANYAN will be conducted at the Mumbai Campus .For programmes offered at Hyderabad and Guwahati, the PIT/PI will be conductedat the respective campuses. Candidates applying for programmes at more than onecampus, will have to travel to these places for PIT/PI. Except for the eligiblecandidates from the SC/ST/OBC(NC) categories all others will bear the cost oftravel, lodging and boarding for attending the NET, as well as PIT/PI

ncase the candidate is selected for more than one programme after NationalEntrance Test, Pre-Interview Test and Personal Interview, admission will beoffered to the programme higher in the order of preference.

Application Submission:

Candidates have to apply through the online application form only.Following are the steps involved in filling up the form

The candidate has to register with an emailid. The candidate willbe sent a password which is to be used to login and fill the online form.

After login candidates have to fill in their basic details,academic details and have to mention the programmes they wish to apply for inthe order of preference.

Pay the application fee (depending on number of programmesapplied) either by depositing cash in any branch of SBI or through Credit card/Debit Card/ Net Banking and

Scan and upload photograph, signature, marksheet of last exampassed and other necessary certificates.

Candidates having lack of access to internet services (remotearea) can write to Mumbai campus for printed application form. They have to theapplication form and submit before last date of submission.

Candidate can apply for multiple programmes and pay for all theprogrammes in one online form and should not fill more than one online form. Ifa candidate is found to have filled more than one form, all his applicationswill be cancelled

Last date for filling the form online: October 25, 2013

Pre Admission Orientation:

Every year the pre-admission orientation is organised by the Social Protection Office(SPO) for all SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Minoritycandidates who have qualified to appear for the National Entrance Test of theInstitute.  The objectives of this programme is to orient candidates fromthese categories to the whole process of the entrance test, various aspects ofcomputer based test, group discussion/pre-interview test and personalinterview. All the above category candidates are oriented to the facilities andentitlements. This orientation is a unique effort of the TISS to buildconfidence among SC,ST, OBC(NC), PWD and Minority candidates.

Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC(NC), PWDand minority communities are eligible to attend the two -day orientationprogramme to be held on November 15-16,  2013 in Mumbai, Guwahati and onNovember 16-17, 2013 at Delhi and on November 29-30,  2013 at Hyderabad.Candidates from these categories must choose the place nearest to theirresidence and indicate  the centre for orientation programme in theirapplication form. An invitation letter by email from the Office of Dean, SocialProtection Office will reach them 2 weeks prior to the date of orientationprogramme.

Travelling Allowance (TA) is paid to eligible*candidates (SC/ST/OBC(NC) for attending the Pre-Admission Orientation Programmeat the Centre. The candidates are required to submit the TA form along with onward (Original) and return journey tickets(photo copy), Caste/Tribe/OBC(NC)certificate and Income Certificate for preceding year issued by a competent authority.

(*Criteria for Eligibility: Unemployed SC/ST andOBC(NC) candidates whose parent’s / guardian’s income is below Rs. 2.5 lakhsand Rs. 1 lakh respectively for the Financial Year 2012-13. Other SC/ST/OBCcandidiates will not be entitled for TA.)

National Entrance Test:

National Entrance Test (TISS-NET)  is computerbased. It will be held on December 15, 2013
