In fact, agriculture is the key to India’s socio-economic fabric.With world’s second largest arable land mass and diverse agro climatic zones,India's agricultural strength lies in unique mix of abundant natural resources,coupled with low production costs. Indiaranks first in the world in production of milk, pulses, jute; second in rice,wheat, sugarcane, groundnut, vegetables, fruits and cotton. In addition, it isa leading producer of spices and plantation crops as well as livestock,fisheries and poultry. With the contribution of about 10 percent of totalexport earnings, agriculture also occupies important place in country’s trade.
India has the latentpotential to become a predominant player in global agriculture production aswell as trade. Given the hardworking nature and entrepreneurial zeal of Indianfarmers, need of the hour is to provide them exposure to the global bestpractices and farm technologies. Duringthe last decade, Gujarat has achieved double digit growth rate in agricultureby moving ahead from traditional farming to value addition. This has creatednew opportunities into hi-tech agriculture, food & agro processing, dairyand other agriculture activities.Withthe objective to sustain the growth momentum in the State and to facilitate therealization of latent potential of agriculture in India, Gujarat is organizing
